Notes

Results day and the days following were far busier than last year. Support was provided for students trying to gain entry to a course of their choice, and these attempts were largely successful.

Taken as a whole, the grades obtained by students were in line with expectations. The large number of students failing to gain the grades required for their CF is explained by some rather optimistic applications. Most students holding an optimistic CF also held a sensible CI in reserve however.

As the figures above indicate however, only four students failed to gain entry to either of the universities of their choice. One of these students was very weak academically, and another did not have a lower offer to hold as a sensible insurance (CI).

In recent years, students holding offers from the less selective universities have almost always been accepted, even if they fall several grades short. One noticeable development this year has been the willingness of far more selective universities to accept students who were one or even two grades short of obtaining the grades originally requested. (e.g. Aberdeen / Medicine, Warwick / Maths)

Despite the increased number of students requiring assistance, the whole process has moved rapidly, with universities generally taking less time to reach decisions. At the time of writing, there is only one student whose eventual destination remains to be finalised.
