School Libraries

Library Facilities at Ratcliffe College

All the libraries at Ratcliffe College are attractive, well-resourced areas which not only meet the academic needs of students but encourage reading for pleasure. They offer a range of resources and provide invaluable support for students throughout their education at Ratcliffe. All students have the opportunity to visit the library areas regularly and are encouraged to make effective use of their resources.

The Infant Library and Newman School Libraries

The libraries in both the Infant and Junior Schools are bright, lively areas which help to promote the children’s love of reading. Between them, they stock over 5,000 book and multimedia resources which can be borrowed by the students. They provide a focal point for group and individual reading and help to support students in finding out information.

The Emery Library

The Emery Library is the main College library and plays a key role in emphasizing the value that the school places on reading and research for academic study, using both print and ICT based resources, and also in encouraging students to read for pleasure. The Emery Library provides the following facilities: a range of loanable resources including over 9,500 books, periodicals, DVDs and CDs; access to 20 network-linked computers, all with Internet access; unrestricted access to students throughout the school day, and into the evening for boarding students; access to the library catalogue via the “Heritage Enquiry” module which is available on the school computer network.

The Rosmini Sixth Form Centre Library

The Rosmini Sixth Form Centre Library

The opening of the Rosmini Sixth Form Centre in 2007 gave an opportunity to provide a library area specifically geared to A-level study. The resources include over 2,500 books, a wide range of daily newspapers and periodicals to provide wider reading geared to curriculum study, online subscriptions and a range of foreign language and general interest DVDs. In addition, there are 24 networked computers available making the Study Centre an excellent base for private study.

The Library and Study Centre is open to students from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday to Thursday, and until 6.30 p.m. on Fridays.
