RAF
The RAF section is commanded by Flt Lt T Burton RAFVR(T) who is not a member of the schools' teaching staff. FLt Lt Burton has extensive experience in the Air Cadet Organisation (ACO). In addition to keeping the section running Flt Lt Burton has been responsible for much of the recruit training.
There is a syllabus of training for CCF RAF Cadets governed by Headquarters Air Cadets (HQAC) at RAF Cranwell. We aim to have a varied timetable with subjects being taught by senior cadets from within the section where possible. Advanced subjects are also taught by the most senior cadets and Officers.
What the syllabus doesn't tell you is just how much fun cadets can be. You will make new friends in all year groups within the school and through attendance at annual camps at RAF bases in the UK and abroad you will make new friends from other schools from around the United Kingdom and beyond.
Regular flying slots at RAF Cranwell in Lincolnshire ensure that at Ratcliffe College we get all of our cadets flying (often taking control themselves), even doing aerobatics!
The very best cadets are put forward every year for Gliding and Flying Scholarships where flying training at an RAF base or civilian flying school is obtained up to solo standard. Imagine...cadets often fly solo before they are even legally allowed to drive a car!
Does it cost? The cost of your messing (accomodation/food at the RAF base) and that's it. Even your travel by train is covered.
