Programme

Preparation for GCSE

The first three years in the Senior School are structured to provide a broad academic experience in English, Mathematics, Sciences, Languages, Religious Studies, Humanities, the Performing and Creative Arts, Physical Education and class sizes are small, giving teaching staff time to be responsive to each child’s character and needs. The breadth of the curriculum in the first three years equips students to make informed choices at GCSE.

The GCSE years are challenging and demanding; we offer close support and guidance throughout. Students study a core of subjects – English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, a Modern Language, Religious Studies and Science – and take additional GCSE subjects from option blocks. Each student has the opportunity, when making GCSE choices, to concentrate on his or her strengths, whether they are in the Sciences, Languages, Creative Arts or practical subjects. Most students will study 10 GCSE subjects, but we also offer some flexibility in the number of subjects studied. The GCSE booklet (click here) contains further information on the GCSE programme, together with details of courses currently offered.
